We are passionate about the work we do because we know that we help people change their lives!   While they are here, we walk along side our Guests and help them create connections with resources including community agencies, housing services, and MI Bridges.

Many people have preconceptions about who the homeless are. They imagine scenes from cities like San Francisco or New York and as a result, they are very surprised to learn that most of those who find themselves in need of shelter may be neighbors, co-workers, and families in Northeast Michigan. Our guests seek our help for many reasons in addition to mental health or addiction - the loss of a loved one, unemployment, divorce, domestic violence, and eviction among other reasons.

Our capacity at Sunrise Mission is very limited, and not everyone is interested in obtaining the services we provide. We screen all applicants to determine if they want our services, or if we can meet their needs. When people are seeking our assistance, they must first complete a screening, undergo a background check, and participate in an interview.
